Dirty Sink

Beginners Tutorial using a dirty style. We will be using different blending styles and making some custom brushes.
1

Begin by opening sink.jpg The default size for this image is 640 × 400. I suggest you keep it that size untill the end of this tutorial. Open dirt.jpg, this is gonna be the base for your brush or if you like use it as it is. Either way rename it to dirt1
2

‘Select All’ of dirt1. On the brushes menu click ‘define brush’. You should now have a new brush in your list. Click this brush a few times over the well of the sink preferably the left hand side. Don’t get carried away. A few clicks will do.
3

Choose your eraser tool with a large soft brush and erase your brush marks from the outer rim of the sink. Next change blend on dirt1 to ‘Soft Light’. Create New Layer called red1. Use colour picker to select #960018.
4

Choose a soft brush, size 100 and paint in the well of the sink. Choose eraser tool with a hard brush size of 70 and erase red over plughole. Turn down opacity for a while if you have trouble locating it. Now switch this layer blend to ‘Overlay’.
5

Open cutout.gif (covert to RGB) and place inbetween dirt1 and red1, Invert it and set its blend to ‘Multiply’. Open logo.gif, covert it to RGB and drag into your picture. Position above red1. Resize, rotate and skew slightly so the perspective looks right.
6

Set blend to ‘Multipy’. Open foil.jpg and drag it into your pic above red1. Set blend to ‘Hard Light’ and ‘Opacity’ to 60. Also open skin.jpg and place above foil. Set its blend to ‘Colour Burn’ and its opacity to 27
7

Make new layer and place on top. Pick the brush we defined earlier on and the colour white. Set layer blend to ‘Screen’ and click brush a few times around the top-left edges of the pic.
8

Above is the completed piece. You do not have to follow this tutorial down to the last tee. Adjust and draw what you think looks right to you. The name of the game is Experiment!!
