Debt for life!

Today we went sale agreed on a new abode. Purchasing a house in Ireland has to be the one of the most expensive, frustrating and stressful experiences!

We always knew we would be moving house again one day. Everything happened so fast. Love, marriage, house, baby. In that order! We are happy enough where we live at the moment but our baby daughter is expanding her area of exploration by the day. Our two bed townhouse won’t cut it anymore. So what to do?

Irish property is ridiculously expensive. Both myself and my wife work and we still had trouble getting a mortgage first time around. This time it was harder even with a property in our portfolio. The reason being is that I am now a freelance/sole trader designer. Us ‘types’ don’t get many breaks when it comes to credit . But in the end we have been approved for a mortgage after close scrutiny of my books.

We have paid a deposit on a nice little 3 bed semi-detached in a place called Cloughduv which is about 20 minutes away from where we live at the moment. We intend to rent where we live presently. I think I actually feel more apprehension the second time round than the excitement and nervousness of our first buy. Have I finally grown up? Is this settling down? What is that strange feeling that overwhelms me? Could it be the fact I am now in debt for life? It’s a good thing no? More updates as they happen.
